Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Novo blackout blinds different from store-bought ones?
Our custom aluminum side channels. Off-the-shelf blackout blinds leave a 6–10 mm gap between the fabric and the window frame that lets daylight spill across the ceiling. We mount aluminum channels flush to the frame and the fabric rides inside them, so the edges are fully sealed.
Do your blackout blinds really block 100% of light?
With the side channel system installed, yes. The fabric itself is triple-layer and blocks visible light plus 99.9% of UV. The channels close the perimeter gap — we do a light-leak check at install and re-shim until you can't see any glow.
How long does it take from measurement to installation?
Typically 2–3 weeks from order to install, manufactured locally in Edmonton. Rush orders are available for time-sensitive situations like nursery deadlines or move-in dates — just let us know when you book.
Can blackout blinds be motorized or connected to smart home systems?
Yes, and we recommend it for larger windows, skylights, and nurseries. Battery, plug-in, or hardwired motor options are all available, with support for Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit plus sun and schedule automations.
Will the side channels damage my window trim?
No. Our installers use concealed fasteners sized to your trim, and the channels come in white, black, or silver to blend with your finishes. Inside-mount channels tuck into the frame; outside-mount channels frame the window cleanly.
Are blackout blinds child-safe?
Yes. All Novo blackout blinds are cordless or use inaccessible-cord systems that comply with Health Canada's Corded Window Coverings Regulations (SOR/2019-97). For nurseries and kids' rooms we recommend motorized or wand-operated versions.
Do blackout blinds help with heating and cooling costs?
Yes. The triple-layer fabric plus sealed channels create a dead-air pocket at the glass that improves insulation — measurable savings on summer cooling and winter heating, especially on south- and west-facing windows in Edmonton.
What is the warranty on Novo blackout blinds?
Lifetime workmanship warranty on anything we manufacture, with local repairs from our Edmonton shop. Motors are covered by the manufacturer for 5 years, and fabric is warrantied against defects for 5 years.
